Investing on Simple and Culturally Responsive Ideas

The decades long Afghan conflict has had horrific impacts, including trauma and displacement on many Afghans. The majority of the primary victims of the conflict are those in poor and marginalized communities in Afghanistan which were traditionally centered around and dependent on subsidence agriculture and basic businesses. Members of these communities lost their livelihoods as a result of the conflict and displacement in the country. In addition, these communities comprise most of the illiterate, unskilled population in Afghanistan.  The negative impacts of conflict, combined with high rates of illiteracy and unemployment, has created a seemingly hopeless and unresolvable cycle of poverty.

We empower the most deprived conflict-affected girls and young women with literacy and life skills to enable them to read and write and generate an income in order to bring a social change and poverty alleviation.

Working with young women to become literate and master the skill of sewing

Simultaneous investment in education and economic empowerment leads to opportunities for independence of girls and poverty alleviation, thus allowing them to protect their own rights and freedom and to leave situations of oppression and violence.

Already have some impact!

During the last two years, 300 girls and young women have been empowered with literacy and tailoring skills. With funding from the Blossom Hill Foundation, NCPDO distributed sewing machines and other needed tools to help them establish their own home-based businesses.

NCPDO need support and funding to reach more girls and women

This is an urgent problem; 60% males and 90% females in our target population are illiterate, and only 12% of them are skilled workers.

Our Numbers

The average monthly income of each beneficiary is $110

More than 2000 people have been served and supported indirectly

Our target is to empower 1000 girls and young women in 3 years
